Serbia has connected West with East for centuries – a land in which civilizations, cultures, faiths, climates and landscapes meet and mingle. It is located in the centre of the Balkan Peninsula, in south eastern Europe. The cultural and historical heritage of Serbia begins with prehistoric archaeological sites and its legacy from classical antiquity. Perhaps its greatest riches, though, are in the many mediaeval Serbian churches and monasteries, some of which are included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. All year round, numerous cultural, entertainment, traditional and sporting events are held in Serbia, demonstrating the creative power and spiritual vitality of this country. Belgrade is the capital city of the Republic of Serbia and is centrally located in southeast Europe
The Belgrade Marathon is one of the most important and popular sporting events in Serbia. Watch a short video below and be won over!
There is plenty to do in Belgrade. You can even go for dinner at Novak Djokovic’s restaurant. True! I have visited Belgrade and found it to be a great city with enormous history… if only those walls could talk! While you’re there you can also pop down to Montenegro, a stunning part of the world and regarded as one of the top 10 Destinations in the world. Perast is a stunning town on the Kotor Bay, with idyllic boutique accommodation and gorgeous restaurants. Croatia is but a short drive away and Dubrovnik is an easy day trip. A truly beautiful part of the world.
10:00am at the junction of Bulevar kralja Aleksandra and Resavska Streets. The finish is in front of the Moskva Hotel.
The city of Belgrade is geographically situated at the intersection of two big rivers - Sava and Danube with two completely separate parts of the city. Old Belgrade is mostly hilly and New Belgrade is completely flat, so the course of the Belgrade Marathon is designed to start and finish in the centre of Old Belgrade but most of the race is run in New Belgrade on flat surface. The scenery is interesting, varying from very old houses in the Old Belgrade to newly built skyscrapers, passing by the Parliament house of the Republic of Serbia and the Old King’s palace, the headquarters of Serbian government, passing by a couple of big parks, overtaking the bridge over the river Sava with fantastic views of the Belgrade fortress and the intersection of the rivers Sava and Danube.
