New Zealand Sotheby's Hawke's Bay Marathon

The Hawke's Bay Marathon is more than just another marathon or fun run, it's a festive experience you'll always remember. The Hawke's Bay Marathon showcases the region and takes you through a scenic tour of one of the most spectacular regions of New Zealand. The region boasts thousands of acres of vineyards, orchards and farms, providing a picturesque backdrop, and making the region well known for its wine and food production. Soak up the tastes and views while wine and cheese tasting at one of the well-known vineyards.

Course

The event courses are flat, easy running. They each offer a unique mix of running terrain, with a combination of running on-road, bike trails and through vineyards. The courses take in the highlights of the Hawke's Bay region which overall include running along the waterfront in Napier, Hawke's Bay cycle trails and quiet country roads, with the last 10km of the courses running through private vineyards and olive groves. The finish area, at the stunning Elephant Hill Estate and Winery, offers New Zealand's best finish line festival where you can relax, soak up the atmosphere, refuel and enjoy celebrating your achievement with friends and family. 

The Hawke's Bay Marathon takes in the highlights of Hawke’s Bay, including the waterfront, cycle trains, quite country roads and private vineyards.

Expo

The Partner Expo will be open during Athlete Check-In and entry is FREE!

There will be a range of retailers there to assist with your pre event needs, including the ASICS Merchandise stand and a team doing strapping for $5/service.

Athlete Check In

Athlete check in is compulsory for all participants. You will collect your race number, and official gear bag.

Location:                  Napier War Memorial Centre, 48 Marine Parade, Napier. 

Opening hours:        Friday 13 May 2022: 9:00am - 9:00pm

Cut off

Runners must reach the Brookfield's Bridge (15km) by 10:45am. Runners who do not make the cutoff time will not be permitted to continue due to the need to reopen the roads. The course is officially closed at 4:00pm.

Aid Stations

Aid stations will provide water, Isotonic sports drink, toilet facilities and first aid.

Personal Drinks

Personal Drinks will be distributed to all aid stations for marathon and half marathon runners only. The bottles must be marked clearly with runner’s race number and the drink station you want them left at. Runners are encouraged to mark bottles with a ribbon or colour for easy identification.

Bottles must be handed in at Athlete Check-In on Friday 13 May. The personal bottles will be set out in numerical order at the first table of the designated aid stations. No glass, metal or unsealed bottles will be accepted.

Results

Results are based on net (mat) times. Age group place getters will be recognised, based on net times.

Prizes

Awarded to the first three place getters in the Marathon and the first place getter of the Half Marathon. All finishers receive a medal.

Finisher Photos

Photos are taken of all competitors throughout the day on course and at the finish line by our official photographer. Photos will be available online 48hrs after the event to view and purchase. Be sure to smile when you see a photographer and have your race number clearly visible from the front so the photographer can identify you.

Transport

To be provided and details will be confirmed closer to time. 

Baggage Service

There will be a bag drop service available at the start area of each race. Only event Race bags can be used and must be accompanied by the race number bag tag given at the athlete check in. Bags will be transported to the finish line. 

Food and Wine Festival

The Finish Line Event Hub at the stunning Elephant Hill Estate & Winery offers New Zealand's best finish line festival; where you can relax, soak up the atmosphere, refuel and enjoy celebrating your achievement with friends and family. You can make a day of it whilst cheering on other finishers, having a well-earned massage, enjoying the entertainment and the best of local Hawke's Bay food and wine. It's the kind of festive atmosphere you won't want to leave!

Once you have crossed the finish line there will be water, PURE nutrition, bananas, medical facilities and a rest area available immediately should you require them.

There will be great music, MCs keeping you up to date with snippets of event info and food vendors galore - pretty much all you need to chill before prize giving.
